Breaking My Chains
Not All Endings Are Bad
It may be sad; it may be something I don’t want to let go. But each ending in my life closed the door on something no longer for me and opened the door for new things that were more applicable to who I wanted to be and to who I’m supposed to be in life.
The things through the new doors have always been better than what I was leaving behind. Always. My flesh not wanting to go where God is telling it to go is what makes it feel “bad”. Whether it sparks fear, anger, or the unknown, those are simply feelings.
When we are listening to and seeking the Lord, we can see it as simply “change” and, if we allow it, it will always be for the better overall - even if we don’t know how.
If we ask for it, God will always show us the truth.
But with that truth, we must be willing to accept it; and accept what we are to do (or not do) with it.
Becoming the Woman I Wanted to Be
When I looked around at my life during this particular rock bottom, I didn’t like what I saw. Not one bit of it.
So, I told the Lord I wanted to look like one of those women who were accomplishing things and had their lives together.
And the Lord said “Leslie, I’ll do you one better - I’ll help you BE a woman who accomplishes things and one who not only looks to have her life in order - but does.”
So, I said "Praise God, show me how!" and took off running in that direction.
(well…actually took off baby stepping in that direction….but you know what I mean.)
My Pruning Season
Now THIS season felt like fire.
At the time, I not-so-affectionately called this my “pruning season”.
Since I was finally seeking the Lord, He was able to show me the places I needed to reconcile with Him in order to become who I was asking to become.
He also showed me “my place” in all my active work and personal relationships.
He showed me the ones that were for me; and He made very clear the ones that weren’t for me or that I could not take with me to my new life.
This was painful.
But on the other side was peace I had been longing for.
Solitude vs. Isolation
During the “pruning season”, He took me into solitude and allowed me to find myself once again and to learn about who I am.
There is a difference between solitude and isolation. We must be very careful to remain aware of the differences and shifts between these two things.
Once God saw that I could safely come out of solitude and remain who I am and not get lost in other people, He slowly began bringing me back out into the world. He allowed corrective experiences with safe people so I could practice with my new tools and responses.
He also allowed some old, scary-type experiences as well to make sure I was proficient in setting and maintaining my newly found boundaries.
As those went on, I was able to reflect and continue to improve myself based on what the Lord was showing me during our morning times together.

God Met Me Where I Was
God met me where I was every step of the way. He will meet you there, too.
It’s been a long-awaited escape from the jail-cell I had created for myself but I’m ecstatic to report that I’m seeing the Lord clear my way more and more every day.
I haven’t looked back; and I’ve never once regretted my decision to follow the teachings and ways of Jesus Christ.
I do believe He is the way to reconcile with God and be able to live the life we are longing for.
